Questions About the Learners Licence
Can I skip the learner's licence and apply for a
driver's licence straight away?
Unless you have a recognised foreign driver's licence that can be
converted into a South African driver's licence (and there are certain condition that have to be met to do this),
the answer is no. You have to pass your learners licence test first.
To find out more about converting a foreign drivers licence, check
the Drivers Licence Questions.
Do I need an ID number?
Getting a learners licence without a South African ID is
possible, but then you will need to apply for a traffic registration number. This can be obtained from your
local traffic department. Once you have this traffic registration number, we can make a booking on your behalf. To
check which testing station is closest to you, please see the map of Gauteng testing
stations.
How long is a Learner’s Licence
valid for?
Eighteen months. You will have to obtain your driver’s licence within this period.
Don't leave it until the last moment!! Most of the testing stations have a waiting list for 2 months or more, and
you want to give yourself enough time to have another go should you fail your drivers test first time around, so
book your test well in advance!
